TED LAWSON
Life Member
Honour Wall
Ted joined Dandenong Band in 1985 and was immediately appointed as Drum Major, a position which he held for 26 years. In this time Ted proudly led the Band on more than 100 marches and parades all over Victoria and interstate. Well respected in marching circles, Ted served for a period as the Chief Drum Major for the Victorian State Youth Band alongside his position as Drum Major for Dandenong Band. In 2011 he was awarded the Victorian State Champion title before retiring from the Band and is instantly recognised in photos for his distinctive white marching jacket.
Ted was the backbone of the City of Greater Dandenong Band for many years, serving tirelessly from 1985 until 2011. In this time Ted held the position of Band President for 20 years and served on the committee for a total of 26 years. Ted’s dedication and commitment to the Dandenong Band was recognised in 2000 when he was awarded Life Membership and then again in 2012 when Ted was the inaugural inductee to the City of Greater Dandenong Band Honour Wall for extraordinary service.
Having been a member of Moorabbin and Caulfield Bands prior to joining Dandenong, Ted’s service to the Victorian banding movement was celebrated in 2004 when he was awarded Life Membership to the Victorian Bands' League in 2002 and as well as a 50 Years Service Gold Medal from the VBL in 2004.
Ted dedicated many years to the City of Greater Dandenong Band and we will forever be grateful for his service. He always went above and beyond and remained a loyal supporter after his retirement. Our Band would not be what it is today, if not for the extraordinary service of Ted Lawson.
