ABOUT THE BAND
We are a volunteer community brass band promoting the enjoyment, appreciation, and knowledge of music and the arts within the City of Greater Dandenong and surrounding communities. We strive for musical excellence whilst having fun and fostering community spirit, and aim to share our passion for music with generations to come.
The City of Greater Dandenong Band is one of Melbourne's premier brass bands with a long established tradition of performing a range of concerts, community, and corporate events, as well as regularly competing in regional, state, and National brass band competitions.
Regularly performing in front of large audiences at community events such as ANZAC Day services and community Christmas Carols, the band also marches in a variety of parades and placed fourth nationally in the last Parade of Bands Championships.
The annual Dandenong Band Cabaret (held at the Springvale Town Hall) is a highlight on the Victorian Brass Band calendar and a sell out that keeps crowds coming back year after year!
As well as the full 30 piece Dandenong Band, the band also has smaller ensembles including five and ten piece ensembles, which are able to perform for smaller, more intimate occasions and have performed at various corporate functions to a wide variety of audiences. In 2017 the City of Greater Dandenong Band launched a training band named Springvale Brass, and renamed in 2021 to Dandenong Youth Brass which provides a fun and enthusiastic outlet for musical education and performances for learning musicians up to the age of 25.
With a strong, proud heritage the City of Greater Dandenong Band is also building for the future and has a clear vision going forward taking its music performance to the next generation and beyond. Encompassing a range of ages and skill levels, the band comes together to enjoy a love of all music and to have fun performing live brass music.
The City of Greater Dandenong Band is committed to being a child safe organisation. This means The City of Greater Dandenong Band and all of its subsidiary groups abide by the Child Safe Standards embodied in the guidelines provided by the Commission for Children and Young People in Victoria.
