MUSICAL DIRECTOR

JAMIE LAWSON
Musical Director & Band Committee Member

 

A Life Member of Footscray-Yarraville City Band, Jamie filled the bands principal chair for over 20 years. Professionally, he has held a position in the Royal Australian Navy Band and worked extensively as a freelance musician appearing on stage and in commercial recordings playing trumpet, flugelhorn and cornet. His busy performance schedule sees him regularly travel to perform as a soloist, conductor, clinician, and adjudicator both throughout Australia and New Zealand. He is life member/performer with ‘National Australia Brass’ and is 6 times Victorian Cornet Soloist Champion, being twice awarded Victorian ‘Champion of Champions’.

 

Jamie is a keen educator and conductor leading Boroondara Harmony and Darebin Northern Brass to numerous local, state and national titles. Jamie is passionate about promoting and educating within community music settings and recently co-founded the ‘Skunkworks’ Productions and the annual Bright Brass and Percussion Summer Camp with his wife, Phillipa Edwards.
 

Through his work within community and professional sectors, Jamie has been co-creator and performer in several large scale productions including, “Where Do I begin - The Shirley Bassey Story” and Footscray –Yarraville Band’s recent concert series and European tour, “The Silent ANZAC”.


Jamie is currently employed to teach trumpet, horn and ensembles at St Kevin’s College (Vic) and holds a Bachelor of Performance (Salford University UK and Melbourne University), a Graduate Diploma of Secondary Teaching (University of New England), and an Advanced Diploma in Traffic Management (ATC).
