LATROBE VALLEY EISTEDDFOD WEEKEND FUN

17 September 2017

We have enjoyed a wonderful weekend in sunny Traralgon for the Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod.

The Band performed brilliantly today and we are very happy and proud of all of our performances. We placed 2nd in the B Grade section, and 1st in the A Grade section!

Last night Todd O'Shea performed in the Open Any Instrument Solo, Open Percy Code Memorial Solo, and the Open Latrobe Brass Championship Solo sections! He received a Highly Commended for the Percy Code and Championship sections! Congratulations Todd!

Yesterday afternoon saw 5 Dandenong Band Quartets take to the stage in the Open Quartet/Quintet section! Our Euphonium/Bartone Quartet placed 1st, congratulations Paul Simmonds, David Martin, Todd O'Shea, and Emily Reed Wiltshire! Our Cornet Quartet placed 2nd and our Trombone Quartet received a Highly Commended for their toe-tapping rendition of Beer Barrol Polka - which included two of our beginner trombonists Michael Mathers & Stephanie Gilfedder! One of our members also performed with the Stonnington Trio and Stonnington Dectet in those sections, congratulations Rhiannon Hill!

Eight of our members competed in four duets in the Open Duet/Trio section yesterday. Congratulations Paul & Todd on a beautifully blended performance which received a Highly Commended, and Mick & Steph who also received a Highly Commended for their spirited and comedic arrangement of Mack the Knife, in their first ever contest on trombone!

The whole weekend started at 8.30am on Saturday morning when Springvale Brass member, Hannah Mathers performed in the Under 10 Solo section in her first ever contest. And she placed 3rd!

A huge thank you to all our Band Members & supporters & Committee, our emergency permit Alison Landmeter, all of the Latrobe Valley Eisteddfodorganisers & volunteers & adjudicators, and all of the other bands & performers who made this such a memorable and musical weekend!
