"Wide World of Brass" Band Cabaret

9 July 2016

Score!

That’s exactly what the City of Greater Dandenong Band did with this year’s annual cabaret – Wide World of Brass.

To an enthusiastic audience of over 300, the band played its way through an extensive program of some of the most well-loved sporting anthems and sport associated themes. With well-known tunes from the Rocky movies, previous Olympic Games, cricket, baseball, basketball and of course AFL to name but a few, the audience were left wanting more.

The annual cabaret concert comes on the tail of previous year’s themes including “The Sound of Musicals”, “Make Music … Not War”, and “Around the World in 80 Tunes” … all of which were magnificent cabarets and ‘would be hard to beat’. The feedback however from both the audience and the players was overwhelming in that this one was “... the best one yet!”

Accompanying the Band’s fantastic music was a captivating video presentation as well as some amazing vocals featuring singers from within the Band. The audience was once again treated to a visual spectacular of the band donning their best sporting gear for the second half. Despite several of the band members clearly not having actively participated in sport for some time (including Musical Director Michael ‘NFL wide receiver’ Mathers) the fun factor was clearly evident and the audience thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle.

The audience too, having now been to a few of these themed shows, also got into the spirit with a large number dressing is sport and sport related attire for the evening. With tennis players, footballers, racing car drivers, umpires and even a ‘Bat’-man there was fun and frivolity in every direction. This was combined with themed table decorations and a spectacularly decorated Springvale Town Hall for a visually stunning evening.

Preparations are already underway for the 2017 cabaret concert with the Band keen to go one better … and outscore themselves.

A big thanks to the entire organising committee and all of those who worked so hard behind the scenes to make the evening such a great success. Also a huge Thank You to everyone who came along and supported the Band, you helped make this our biggest and best Cabaret yet!
