State Marching Champions 2012

22 Septmeber 2012

The City of Greater Dandenong Band are the 2012 State Marching Champions!!

Held on the opening day of (and as part of) the Royal Melbourne Show, the State Marching Championship played out in front of huge crowds on a beautiful Melbourne Spring day. This is the second year the band has competed in the contest with the band taking out this years title.

The band underwent a full inspection at the halt before snaking its way through the showground crowds from one end to the other. Adjudicated the entire way, including at the saluting dais and past the music judge, the band used the event as a practice for the National Championships in 2013 (being held in Perth over the Easter weekend).

In addition to the band winning the State Marching title, the band's Drum Major and Musical Director (Michael Mathers) also won the title of Champion Drum Major to go with his 2012 National Champion Drum Major title (B Grade). This makes two from two for the band with its recently retired President and Drum Major (Ted Lawson) taking out the title last year.

The band regularly marches as part of its array of public performances and relishes the chance to highlight this part of its performance skill.
