Preparations for the 2015 National Band Championships

23 February 2015

The City of Greater Dandenong Band is busily preparing for their sixth consecutive Nationals competition to be held in Sydney over the Easter weekend (April 3 - 5). As one of only two Victorian bands to do so (the other being Darebin/Preston in A Grade) the band is justifiably proud to represent the city and the state at the biggest contest of the year. To be able to do so, again, is a true representation of the strength of character within each member of the band. The love and dedication shown towards the band and each other from all of its members is astounding.

Competing previously in Tasmania (2010), Adelaide (2011), Melbourne (2012), Perth (2013), Brisbane (2014) and now in Sydney in 2015, the band is eager to take to the stage (and the streets) over the Easter weekend.

With the national status of the band being raised significantly in previous National competitions, more specifically in the adjudicated street march, the band is going from strength to strength. Specifically the band has become known for its innovative and entertaining changes of direction in the street parade section of the competition … this year promises to be no exception! Having already begun fine tuning the steps of their 2015 marching extravaganza, the band is yet again hoping to impress both the judges and the audiences and provide a bit of fun for those acting as spectators.

Over the last six years, Dandenong Band has continued to grow, improve and test itself at the highest level of competition and remains proud of its achievements to date. There is a great sense of community and camaraderie amongst the players, both old and new, and the atmosphere in the band room week in and week out (even in the midst of preparing for a Nationals competition) is one of welcome, fun, hard work and accomplishment …. one that this author is very grateful and proud to be a part of.
