EDWIN KEEN
Third Cornet
Edwin started playing Trumpet with his secondary School Band and later joined the Horsham City Brass Band on Cornet. Over time he started moving around on different instruments within the band, settling up on on Euphonium. Moving back and forth between Horsham and Adelaide he played and competed with Marion City Band (competing in D and C grade) and becoming Drum Major and Librarian during his time there. He also played with Trans Adelaide (SA Railway Band and Die Eisenbahn Speilor) Brass Band, and Glenelg Brass Band (which he is currently helping convert and repair damaged music), and also trying out concert bands.
While growing up around bands, Edwin also enjoyed being involved with Horsham Arts Council and being in many various musicals, which saw him in the lead roll of Morrie in "Dimboola" and as the lead in "The King and I" when undertaking VCE with Horsham High School. He was co-nominated as best lead in a school musical with his leading lady.
While having a leave of absence from the brass band since 2008, Edwin has also played Tenor and Bass Drums with Horsham City Pipe Band. He also competed with the University of Ballarat Pipe Band in the State Championships where they took out the D Grade title. Edwin has also been involved with Casey and Frankston Pipe Bands in 2012.
Edwin moved to the City of Casey area in 2012 and after having a minor stroke in 2013, he has came back to be involved with brass bands. Since November 2015 Edwin shares his time between Dandenong and Oakleigh brass bands to aid in his recovery since the stroke. He is playing 3rd Cornet for Dandenong and going back to his favourite instrument - Euphonium, with Oakleigh.
