COLIN HARRISON
Bb Tuba

Band Committee Member

 

At the age of 14 Colin took up the tenor horn and joined the Box Hill City Band under the conductorship of Geoff Morrison. In 1985, still with Box Hill, he transffered to the contrabass tuba and played under John Woods (tuba MSO) and saw success with the band winning B grade several times and being promoted to A Grade.

After nearly 30 years with Box Hill City Band Colin moved to the Footscray-Yarraville City Band in 2003 and served under conductors Ken Smith and Phillipa Edwards. In 2011 Colin won the Victorian State Contrabass Tuba Championship and in 2018 he developed and project managed the Armistice Centenary Tour to France, Belgium and the UK by the Footscray-Yarraville City Band.

In his time with brass bands Colin has had the privilege to play alongside such brass luminaries as Geoff Payne (Principal trumpet, MSO), Bill Evans (trumpet MSO), Julie Payne (trumpet , MSO), John Woods (tuba, MSO), Brett Kelly (principal Trombone MSO), Ken McClimont (trombone MSO), Richard Shirley (trombone MSO), Tim Buzbee (Tuba MSO) , Jessica Buzbee (Trombone Iceland Symphony) and Jamie Lawson (Principal Cornet). Colin has also had the privilege to play under the expert conductorship of Phillipa Edwards (Musical Director of the Year 2007), Ken McDonald (Principal Cornet Black Dyke Mills Band) and Professor David King (Musical Director Cory Band, YBS, et al).

 

In 2019 Colin was welcomed into the Dandenong Band where he has made many new friends and is looking forward to helping the band succeed in its musical endeavours.
